Calothamnus lateralis is a spreading shrub growing to a height of about 1m x 1-2m. It has long fine foliage and corky bark.  The flowers are blood red and arranged in small spikes with the lower part of the flower embedded in the corky bark. Flowering can occur in almost any month of the year. It prefers full sun in most well drained soils. Very hardy, drought and frost tolerant.
