Bursaria spinosa is a medium to large shrub or small tree, growing to 5–10 m high with thorns growing amongst the branches. The sprays of fragrant flowers can occur at any time of year, but mainly appear in the summer. It is hardy and adaptable growing in all states of Australia, apart from Western Australia and the Northern Territory, from coastal to subalpine areas. It provides nectar for butterflies and a haven for small birds. Full sun to part shade in most soils.
