Eremophila mackinlayi is a shrub with its branches and leaves covered with a thick layer of yellow to grey hairs, grey foliage and deep lilac-coloured to purple flowers. Flowering occurs from May to October. Sometimes a spreading shrub, other times erect, growing to a height of 0.2–1 m. Grows in full sun or part shade in well drained soils. It is both drought tolerant and moderately frost resistant.
